Gilded Balloon are delighted to be bringing the UK’s longest running comedy newcomer competition back for its 34th year!This year’s competition will feature over 30 regional showcases taking place online, in partnership with some of the best UK comedy venues. Come and support some of the countries newest comics, all hosted by some of the competition’s incredible regular hosts. 'SYTYF was the first competition I entered. Tales from a Haunted Bookshop

A spooky show of terrible tales, bothersome books and gruesome goings on! The Haunted Bookshop has a story for everyone. Everyone, that is, with an appetite for the ghastly, the ghostly and the down right grizzly. Miss Cordelia Hemlock has tasked her assistant, Ransome Squelch, with traveling the world and snatching despicable stories to be lovingly bound into books. If you're lucky the frankly frightening pair might even share some of them with you. It'd be their pleasure... or perhaps their curse. A weird and wonderfully dark show for horrid children and irresponsible adults.

The Oxford Alternotives

The Oxford Alternotives were the first a cappella group set up at the University of Oxford as an alternative to the chapel choirs which dominated the music scene. Set apart from Oxonian tradition, they are known for their creative takes on contemporary music. The Alternotives consist of everyone from medics to musicians to mathematicians, offering different qualities to the team. Whilst the pandemic brought much to a standstill, the Alternotives kept singing, attempting Zoom rehearsals with erratic, and often hilarious, results. Off the back of their performance at the ICCAs, they're thrilled to perform at Fringe again!

Land – A Scottish Musical

Jakko Jakszyk, guitarist/singer with King Crimson, was born Michael Curran. His mother, a singer in one of Ireland's biggest show bands. Adopted by Polish and French parents, Jakko grew up wondering who he was. Going on a voyage of self-discovery: a heritage forged in war, displacement and exile, war-torn France, to Poland, to a terraced house in Hertfordshire. Tracing his mother to remote Arkansas, he found his far-right leaning siblings. A glimpse of who he might have become? The Oxford Alternotives were the first a cappella group set up at the University of Oxford as an alternative to the chapel choirs which dominated the music scene. Set apart from Oxonian tradition, they are known for their creative takes on contemporary music. The Alternotives consist of everyone from medics to musicians to mathematicians, offering different qualities to the team. Whilst the pandemic brought much to a standstill, the Alternotives kept singing, attempting Zoom rehearsals with erratic, and often hilarious, results. Off the back of their performance at the ICCAs, they're thrilled to perform at Fringe again!
